Each year, more than 17.200 children in the Netherlands are involved in high conflict divorces, which puts them at an increased risk of developing stress-related symptoms. During her PhD, Marjolein will study parental daily behaviours and co-parenting constraints that trigger, or buffer, children's maladjustment. She will use Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) to capture the idiosyncratic dynamics within families. This way, she hopes to contribute to the development of more personalized interventions aimed at reducing stress in these families.

Pracademic

Marjolein has an extensive background in research and clinical practice focused on child and adolescent care. She describes herself as a 'pracademic'. Before starting her academic career, she worked for many years as an innovator and product manager in the corporate world. At a certain point she decided to follow her passion for psychology. She did her bachelor at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam and in 2017 she completed the research master in clinical and translational neurosciences.

After obtaining her degree she worked as a data manager, coach, and eventually as a researcher. In 2021 she started working at Kenter Jeugdhulp (department of innovation and research). For the next few years, she will be combining this work with her PhD.
