With a background in psychology and neuropsychology, Theres is eager to contribute to the mental health field through research. She studied psychology in Groningen and recently completed her master's in neuropsychology at the VU in Amsterdam. Her previous research focused on sex differences in prefrontal glutamate concentration and alcohol use disorder, as well as analyzing neurocognitive and resting-state brain networks in Parkinson's patients with mild cognitive impairment. This work highlighted the importance of network science in understanding cognitive (dys)function as an interplay of interconnected systems rather than isolated processes.

Building on this foundation, Theres is excited to begin her PhD at Leiden University, where she will investigate the interaction between mental and somatic symptoms in patients with high-frequency migraines. Through this project, she hopes to identify distinct symptom subgroups and contribute to the development of personalized treatment approaches.
